There are about a zillion different ways to dress up a banana (not that it isn’t perfectly wonderful in its natural state) but I’ll bet you never thought to bake them! I was intrigued with the idea and I’m here to tell you, it’s easy and delicious. It tastes just like banana flambé, without the flaming torches.

This recipe comes courtesy the Boston Cooking-School Cook Book, published in 1896. I made it for dessert on a busy weeknight and my girls LOVED it. Because it’s a fruit based dessert, I didn’t feel so bad about doling out seconds. Here’s how you do it.

Ingredients
• 4 medium size bananas-don’t use overripe bananas or they’ll fall apart too easily. Try to pick some that are just leaving the green stage and crossing over to ripeness.
• 2 tablespoons melted butter
• 1/3 cup sugar
• Juice of one lemon

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Peel bananas and cut them in half lengthwise. Place in baking pan.

Mix butter, sugar and lemon juice in small bowl. With a ladle, spoon half of liquid over bananas
Bake 10 minutes. Remove from oven and spoon rest of mixture over bananas. Bake an additional 10 minutes.

That’s it! I served it with two side scoops of whip cream. Delish! Easy! And super-fun. Enjoy!
